Intensive Oil Color Mixing

This intense workshop covers the fundamental of color properties such as hue, value, temperature, intensity, perception, color theory and pigment mixing.
We will prepare warm, cool and broken color charts with a reduced palette.
You will learn about local color, underpainting color. How to use grays to make your color stand out; complementary, analogous, triadic, and tonal color schemes.
This is a very academic class as taught in the Florence Academy that will teach you the fundamentals of color and it’s properties. A color chart will be created of each palette, first by the instructor and then by each student with Slide Show examples.

Portraiture with Cesar Santos

CONSTRUCT TO GLAZING IN OILS – Is a (4) four-day workshop that introduces students to portrait painting from life. The students will learn to create a preparatory drawing and analyze the planes of the head. How to set up the model and the light. How to build a painting from start to finish using an indirect approach. They will learn to idealize the form using classical proportion to add artistic power to their final work. The first part of this workshop will focuses on the preparatory drawing that will be used for the oil painting. Once the drawing has been established, the student will learn a three layer process, starting from dead coloring onto first and second painting, bringing the portrait to a finish. Throughout the course students will follow a step-by-step method which will allow them to compose a beautiful portrait painting. Throughout the course students will receive individual and group critiques.

DATES: JUNE 2nd – 3rd and JUNE 9th-10th.

Oil Portrait Sketch Level I

The workshop will focus on developing the fundamentals that are needed in order to capture a likeness and create a successful portrait in a short amount of time.
All aspects of painting the portrait in oil from life will be covered. A strong emphasis will be placed on accurate drawing and learning to see the effects of light on the model and its environment.
Participants will achieve greater realism and atmosphere in their paintings by learning to think abstractly and capturing the true shapes that reveal the model’s form instead of relying on preconceived ideas and formulas.

The general structure and proportions of the head and skull will be studied as a means of assessing how individuals differ from the ideal.
Classes will be held on April 23rd, 30th, May 7th and 14th

Plein Air Painting with Sorolla’s Spirit Workshop

Master Abdón J. Romero will be giving a workshop at Crandon Park Beach, Key Biscayne, Sunday Jan 22nd, 9:00-2:00 pm. Only $78! He will be teaching how to interpret the figure under Sorolla’s light in Miami, with an emphasis on expressive painting, capturing light and vibrant charges of colors. He will discuss composition, value, temperature, the use of contrast and brushstrokes rhythm. Abdón and his assistance will help the rest of the day each student to create quick , spontaneous studies.

The Drawing Lounge is a place for artists all levels and art lovers who gather on a regular basis to draw and celebrate art in a professionally set-up environment. The Drawing Lounge main focus is the hosting of themed sessions that provides top-notch models, casual networking exchange, and artistic inspiration.
Our regular sessions are held the third Saturday of every month at Romero Hidalgo Artists’ Studios/MyArt Ventures LLC 4241 Sw 75th Av. Miami Fl 33155 . Artists bring their own art supplies.$20 entrance fee. Photography is not allowed. Participants must be 21+.

On February 19th, 21st and 22nd, we offered a great workshop, a very unique and creative way to study the human body, the model was directly painted on her skin to describe the muscles; the students were amazed and very excited for the results of their work.

This workshop is an in-depth knowledge and practice of the individual features of the face (eyes, nose, mouth) and how they should be observed and painted in oil from three different views (full-face, 3/4, and profile). We will work from photographs of models of varying ages, gender and race. Demos and slide show examples. Basic drawing experience required.
